EVERYONE HAS A UNIQUE PLACE AND ROLE

In our life, our whānau will always need us, and equally, we will always need them!

We all know whānau to be our close relatives, but it also is our friends, hoamahi (colleagues), community and the people we care about. They all contribute to our individual wellbeing and identity.

Connection with our whānau is a core source of strength, support, security and identity.

It is why MindKai tries hard to build a tribe of likeminded people on our social channels. It is also why we truly appreciate everyone we connect with in our journey. You are all part of our whakapapa and an integral part of what makes us who we are.

WHĀNAU HELPS WHĀNAU

Admittedly, when I started MindKai, the hardest part for me was pricing my rongoā.

I wanted everyone to have access, but acknowledge that while the cost fairly reflects the time, effort and ingredients used - it may make MindKai less accessible to some. The kaupapa of 'ta koha' allows me to bridge this gap. This is a beautiful concept of reciprocity and giving - where I koha (gift) a custom blend each month on the marama Oike( moon phase) as part of my giveback.

Utu i mua - paying it forward, is our way of inviting you to give back by helping others also.

  • We can't think of a more special koha (gift) for someone to receive, than one that has come to being through the mauri (lifeforce) of all of those who have given towards it.

Everytime we accumulate $55 as an iwi (tribe) MindKai will send a custom blend to a lucky recipient. Here is your chance to help make a difference for someone!

  • If you'd love a MindKai blend but for what ever reason aren't in a position to buy, then please register your interest to receive a koha through our utu i mua 'pay it forward' initiative.

Through the kindness of others we hope to make that happen - after all, everyone deserves their MindKai moment...especially you!

KA PUTA KO MINDKAI - AND THE MK IWI WHO HELPED MAKE IT ALL POSSIBLE!

Thank you to everyone who helped me test and validate my ideas, and gave advice, positive encouragement and feedback. Most importantly, I want to acknowledge those who bought MindKai before I was even a 'real' pakihi (business). It was that belief in what I was doing that pushed me to keep going.

You know who you are. My OG MK IWI!

WORKING WITH MĀORI & WAHINE TOA

A big part of building the MindKai tribe, was making sure that the businesses and people that I worked with were Māori Pasifika and/or wahine toa. This is because I wanted to raise up kaupapa Māori in any way I could, but also create opportunity for women.

I feel very privilaged to have had Mitch from Mana Ake design the MindKai logo and branding. She has a beautiful kaupapa Māori approach to her mahi and I love that she also has roots with rongoā Māori. Forever grateful for her mahi.

The beautiful hukahuka that I use to tie my wairua cards together are courtesy of the talent of Jess, who fortuitously I found whilst scrolling through instagram one day! They are made with so much care and aroha, and it is beautiful to have this rongoā feature in MindKai's packaging.

The gift of Te Reo Māori is not something I received whilst growing up. I'm very much on a journey to reclaim that back for both myself and my son. In the meantime, I am humbled that my whanaunga of Rongomaiwahine, me Ngāti Kahungunu - Dr. Joseph Te Rito, gave his time and ataahua (beautiful) gift of reo to MindKai key documents.
    He mana tangata!

When you are watching my lives you'll undoubtedly be hit with the art stylings of Crystal - another gem found on instagram! Her art medium is linyl cut prints, and I love the custom prints she created for me with the MindKai logo. They make my mahi space sing!
